Suggestions for Celebrating St. Martin’s Day

The ritual of cider turning into wine has always been widespread and important in Slovenia. Slovenians have been organising unique celebrations on this day every year, and the indispensable part of St. Martin’s Day is a feast with St. Martin’s goose, young wine, red cabbage and mlinci.

You are invited to celebrate the holiday of fruitful autumn in our capital this year. We suggest you some tips on where and how to celebrate St. Martin's Day in Ljubljana.


St. Martin’s Feast menus are found in the most renowned restaurants in Ljubljana. Besides the tastings of new wine harvest in restaurants, gostilnas and wineries, you can also taste wine in Ljubljana at the organised St. Martin’s Day celebrations in the city. When the joy and laughter move to the streets every November at St. Martin’s Day, the atmosphere is unrepeatable.

When: 10 November 2018 at 10 a.m.–5 p.m.

Where: the old city centre (the squares of the Mestni trg, Stritarjeva ulica, Tromostovje, Prešernov trg, Pogačarjev trg)

You can move from stall to stall of numerous wine suppliers and taste wonderful culinary dishes and accompanying wine. A varied cultural programme and numerous workshops are also organised.
