BTC City Culinary Offer

The BTC City shopping centre in Ljubljana is a city outside the city, which offers shopping and other entertaining contents as well as an incredibly diverse selection of quality culinary options. We can explore the tastes of Ljubljana, Slovenia, Europe and the world.

The BTC City as an important Ljubljana’s gastronomy destination and its offer, which is united under the Food Bluz brand, is also presented in the European Region of Gastronomy 2021 project. The diversity of the BTC City offer is exciting for many visitors and it undoubtedly offers everything for any culinary enthusiast.

By visiting the marketplace, you will have a chance to learn about the local products and important traditional products, which are the roots of Slovenian cuisine. Take a walk among the stands with fruits and vegetables, find the part of the marketplace with ecologically produced food, home-made pastries, local meat and dairy products, Slovenian honey, as well as local wine and spirits. By visiting restaurants offering Slovenian dishes, you can learn about their use in everyday and holiday dishes. The numerous restaurants in the BTC City offer typical Slovenian dishes ranging from stews, sausages and other characteristic meat dishes to traditional pasta, fish and typical desserts, such as štrudelj, štruklji and potica.

For those of you who wish to travel to the nearby and more secluded places through food, there is a lovely selection of international dishes in the Ljubljana’s largest shopping centre - you can pamper yourself with Italian pizzas and pasta, Asian noodles, Bosnian čevapčiči and sarma, Argentinian steaks and numerous other delicacies, and the a la carte restaurants take care of the lovers of top fine dining cuisine.

If you are looking for a quick snack or a relaxed evening with trendy dishes, you will find a number of stops with quality fast food and urban bites in the BTC City. In the marketplace nearby you can find the culinary park - an outside food court which offers trendy street food from burgers and wraps to the international culinary offer, including a stand with vegan Indian food, while the indoor part of the marketplace offers a non-gluten diner and a cafeteria with stews and soups.

Green gold enthusiasts are invited to taste the home-made beer of various styles, accompanied with a great selection of hearty food on the other side of the marketplace. The interesting speciality among the street food venues of the BTC City is the famous Ljubljana’s burger with horse meat, found on the Trg Mladih square. After shopping you can relax and invigorate in the many cafés and confectioneries, while you can spend your
evening in one of the bars with excellent cocktails and live music.

More and more visitors consider the BTC City the space, where they can learn more abut the people, nature and culture, which are the foundations of the Ljubljana and Slovenian gastronomy though local ingredients and culinary gastronomy. In cooperation with the Slovenian ethnologist Prof Dr Janez Bogataj the BTC City published the guide for discovering the rich culinary offer of the greatest shopping centre in Ljubljana, which also became the first one, who was presented within the 2021 European Region of Gastronomy.
