New year, new gourmet spots

Stepping into the New Year is a time for new year resolutions for some people, and for us, it is also the time to look back to the important events of the past year. We prepared an overview of spots, which opened in the past year and soon after caught the attention of the Ljubljana culinary enthusiasts.

El Patrón – Tacos & Store
Gornji Trg 10

A small “taqueria”, a refreshment bar with typical Mexican offer and ambience, opened at the Gornji trg in December to the joy of all lovers of international street food. They serve tacos – corn tortillas, enriched with numerous tasty fillings and home-made salsas, while their typical Mexican beverages quench any thirst.

Rifuzl
Celovška 111

Ljubljana finally saw the opening of its first packaging-free shop. At the Rifuzl in the Šiška district from the end of December you can shop and consider the environment, namely, all of the products offered are packed in sustainable packaging or available “in bulk” (“na rinfuzo”). You can choose from several nutrition products, cosmetics and cleaning agents, produced mostly locally and ecologically, and the owners are promising the offer will expand in time.

Sveti Florijan
Gornji trg 20

Sveti Florijan opened its doors in the summer at the Gornji trg; it is some sorts of fusion of a bistro, delicatessen, restaurant, jazz club and a cocktail bar. Enthusiasts of everything good and beautiful can find there place here, which is decorated in a modern style and named after the little church across the street. During the day you can enjoy a creative snack and a glass of wine and after hours a cocktail in a clubbing ambience.

TINK superfood café
Tavčarjeva 4

A new coffee shop has opened up at the Tavčarjeva Street in December, TINK, which offers excellent coffee and other beverages, as well as a selection of tasty and healthy dishes in a lovely, trendy ambience. You can choose from various creative sandwiches, toasts, soups, salad bowls and smoothies for breakfast, brunch, snack or lunch.

Trappa
Koprska 94

A new pizzeria Trappa opened in Vič in Ljubljana, which offers sourdough pizza from a wood-fired oven, a real trend in Ljubljana by the end of 2018. They offer white and red pizzas, several snacks and other dishes from the wood-fired oven, accompanied by a selection of natural wines.

Sisters Kurtoš
Breg 4

Sisters Kurtoš is a small bakery, where sisters Špela and Maša prepare kurtoš – special Hungarian pastry from yeast dough. The inside is puffy and the outside is roasted with a crunchy crust, filled with delicious sour or sweet fillings of your own taste.

Capriccio, Italian Restaurant and Pizzeria
Trubarjeva 52

The lovers of Italian cuisine can now enjoy the authentic Italian pizzas, pasta and other Mediterranean delicacies in the most colourful street in Ljubljana. To meet you any caprice, the Capriccio prepares vegan pizza as well, double-dough pizza, pizza without the tomato sauce, small loaves from pizza dough (filoncini) or the calzone, and all of this from Kamut and gluten-free flour.

Zebra Patisseries
Podutiška cesta 35

Zebra Patisseries is a name of the top quality French desserts, made by Chef Tomi Češek, Sandra Češek and the well-trained confectioner team. They are known for their delicious cakes, mignons, macarons, pies and other French desserts. The also opened their confectionery in Koseze in the fall of 2018, where anyone with a sweet tooth can resort to for a piece of cake or a cup of tea or coffee from the top Slovenian roaster Stow.

If your new year resolutions in 2029 include more culinary pleasures, add the above-mentioned novelties to your list. Make this year even more gourMMMet!
