EUROPEAN FOOD SUMMIT COMING IN MARCH

At the European Food Summit, taking place this March, some of the most renowned experts in culinary, art, and media sectors will come together in one place. Their stories will inspire us, as well as encourage more progressive thinking and taking action in order to ensure a brighter and more sustainable future.

European Food Summit, also known as Gourmet Cup Ljubljana in previous years, has outgrown itself. Today, it is committed to becoming the most important culinary event in Europe. Between 16 and 19 March 2019 the European Food Summit, in partnership with Ljubljana Tourism and Slovenian Tourist Board, will offer an exceptional programme with inspiring culinary stories.

Mag. Petra Stušek, Managing Director at Ljubljana Tourism: "Gastronomy is an increasingly popular motivation for tourists coming here, as Ljubljana and the entire Slovenia have a lot to offer in this area. At European Food Summit we want to incorporate culinary art into unforgettable and unique experiences, and additionally enrich them with lectures and the possibility of exchanging opinions at the highest level. By realising that gastronomy forms a part of culture, we also planned a culinary crawl around Ljubljana and thus intertwined culinary art and culture."

See a short summary of the programme below. Further details, list of speakers and visiting chefs as well as event locations can be found on www.foodsummit.eu.

Saturday, 16 March

  • Open Kitchen Pre-Premiere
In collaboration with Ljubljana Tourism and Gourmet Ljubljana the summit will kick off with a pre-premiere of Open Kitchen – the most popular culinary market in Slovenia. For this occasion the Open Kitchen will take place nearly a week before its official opening in the beautiful Grand Foyer of the Križanke outdoor theatre and in the Trg Francoske Revolucije square, where visitors will be able to taste selected dishes with an emphasis on food served in Slovenian gostilnas and restaurants.
  • Gourmet Ljubljana Crawl (Culinary Walking Tour)
Lovers of exquisite tastes will be able to join a culinary walking tour around Ljubljana (Gourmet Ljubljana Crawl) and indulge in inspiring dishes prepared by Ljubljana’s best chefs, among which Igor Jagodic (Restavracija Strelec), Janez Bratovž (JB Restavracija), Jakob Pintar (TaBar), Jorg Zupan (Atelje), Mojmir Šiftar (Evergreen), and Peter Kovač (Maxim). Their creative masterpieces will be served in cultural centres and various sights around Ljubljana, thus transforming them into one-of-a-kind pop-up culinary venues.

Sunday, 17 March

  • Gourmet on Snow
The central venue on Sunday will be on top of Mount Krvavec where visitors of the ski slopes will be spoiled by excellent Slovenian and foreign master chefs at the Gourmet on Snow event. A remarkable experience on its own will most definitely be the Cable Car Dinner where master chefs will pamper their guests with culinary masterpieces served in cable cars.

Monday, 18 March

  • Expert Symposium
The main topic of this year’s summit will be "Food – Bridge to a Sustainable Identity of European Cultures and Nations", organised in collaboration with Ana Roš and Symposium Curator Andrea Petrini. For the first time in Slovenia, some of the greatest master minds in the culinary, art, and media sector will come together in one place. Many celebrity chefs, winemakers, researchers and journalists will share their stories in short, few-minute motivational speeches. See the full list of speakers on our website www.foodsummit.eu.
  • Experience Dinner
This already sold out experience dinner will take place at the Ljubljana Castle in the company of the Slovenian master chef Ana Roš (Hiša Franko), Italian culinary virtuoso Riccardo Camanini (Lido 84, Italy), and Luka Košir (Gostišče Grič), one of the most creative chefs in Slovenia and ambassador of the European Region of Gastronomy 2021.

Tuesday, 19 March

The closing event will take place on Mount Krvavec. The day will kick off with a gourmet breakfast in the company of an excellent master chef Luka Košir. Skiers, snowboarders, winemakers and foodies will get the chance to partake in a ski race and compete to stand on the winner’s podium, while the Krvavec ‘snow beach’ will host the Gourmet on Snow event where participants will be pampered by Slovenian and foreign master chefs and excellent wines. The day will end with an après-ski party.

Come and join us!
